Clipping vs. UGC vs. Music Promo: What's the Difference?

4 min read

Clipping Stacks ask you to cut existing long-form footage, like a podcast, a stream, or an interview, into short, punchy clips optimized for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts. These reward strong editing instincts and a good eye for the moment worth extracting.

UGC (user-generated content) Stacks ask you to create original content from scratch, usually featuring or reviewing a brand's product. These lean more on your own on-camera presence and creativity within the brief.

Music promo Stacks are built around getting a specific song or sound used and heard: creators post content using the brand's audio, often tied to a new release. Timing matters here more than in other categories, since promo windows are usually short.

There's also Stack University, a fourth category focused on paid course and educational content, for creators who want to build structured learning material rather than short-form posts.

Most creators end up specializing in one or two categories that match their existing content style, rather than trying to do all four at once. Trying a couple of formats early on is a good way to figure out which one is the fastest path to making money online with Stack for you specifically.
